Buccal administration, invisible and protected transport in HDL lipoproteins. Intracellular delivery by SRB-1 receptors
Aonys is a biotechnology allowing the intracellular release of water-soluble pharmaceutical active ingredients with buccal administration.
Aonys® is a micro-emulsion of reverse micelles (water in oil) composed of
(1) a lipid phase and (2) an aqueous phase with (3) an emulsifying agent.
The lipid phase is composed of :
- two lipids, glycerol mono-oleates and phytosterols
- a lecithin allowing absorption through the mucosa and structuring into HDL lipoprotein in contact with A1 apoproteins.
The aqueous phase is a solution of the active substance in water.

History
Medesis Pharma was created in April 2003 to consolidate and develop the intellectual property associated with the discovery of several lipid components with type 2 diabetes-regulating properties extracted from an anti-diabetic plant, the efficacy of which has been validated in animal models by correcting insulin resistance:
- Seven years of screening with purified fractions extracted from Urtica dioica (common stinging nettle), tested on 12,000 diabetic rats.
- Three lipids, when combined with very low concentrations of vanadium, demonstrated therapeutic activity in diabetic rats.
- This has been developed towards a pharmaceutical formulation.
- Technology has been optimized for different types of active ingredients.
Further research has enabled the development of a pharmaceutical formulation, AONYS®, which forms the basis of all products in the research and development pipeline.
